modern style home on small rock point

small home built on rocky point

Challenging sites offer wonderful opportunities!

This home is located on steep site with a very small building area. On gaining this commission our first thoughts were "wonderful - this usually makes for interesting architecture!" Working with the elements presented to us (irregular lot shape and restricted building space limited by the rock cliff on the lake side) the design of the home expands in freeform geometry to fill this available space - even getting a large 3rd garage / workshop that the owner really wanted and did not think possible on such a small building space.

Overlooking a small inlet on the west side of Okanagan Lake the house is designed to maximize the potential 270 degree views from it's vantage point. As directed by the owners particular care was taken to capture the view of the small inlet that occurs almost below the property - private, quiet and secluded this is in full view from the dining room and the cosy covered deck as well as the home office below.

Wonderful input from the owners allowed us to create a truly unique home that suited their lifestyle. Interior finishes are warm and cosy making this a charming and comfortable home to live in. This home demonstrates that "contemporary" can be warm and casual unlike the "art gallery" stereotype that the term contemporary is often associated with!

The house is designed to capture the view of the delightful small and private inlet below. By not putting a deck outside the dining space downward views are maximized and the view of the inlet below is unimpeded.
