luxury home on steep hillside property

description

The design mandate for this home was two beautiful bedrooms on the upper floor (Master and guest suite) and a luxurious but simple main level with a large patio entertaining area complete with infinity edge pool and natural water feature. The house was designed to blend into it's natural surroundings - the subtle green tones in the clay roof tiles reflect this ideal and plays a major element in the design as it is highly visible during the descent from the access road located above. A large skylight located in the roof peak allows natural light penetration (specifically early morning sun) into the main part of the house.

The design of the home is maximized by orientating the layout 45 degrees. This improves views up and down the lake as well as providing privacy between the two suites. Access was a challenge and the garage is located slightly higher than the entry in it's own separate parking court level. Rainwater is always a challenge and the threat of blacked drains is avoided by the incorporation of a water feature to the side of the garage running under a bridge through to the lake side - the ideal overflow precaution.

Throughout the building process the team worked together to produce a stunning finished product. An exceptional kitchen by Carolyn Walsh and exquisite colours by Lynn Archibald set a very high standard in this home. The exterior landscape design is a work of art - in terms of variation, subtle surprises and it's gentle natural feel created by Shanti Handley of Natureworks.

This home was designed to be simple, elegant and functional without any "trendy" ideas that become outdated within a few years. We like to think of this as "timeless" design.

International Award
The infinity pool (concept by Richard Hewitt) won an International Pool Award and credit for this must be shared with the contractor Neil Miller and the pool supplier Gene Brown.
